Hello. I’m Dave. I’m from Pittsburgh, a freshman at Ohio University and a Media Arts and Studies major. I love being immersed in pop culture in all ways. I am a huge fan of Star Wars and I would definitely call myself a fanboy. I have an extensive comic book and film collection. My favorite Director is Stanley Kubrick (2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange) and my favorite comic book is either Watchmen or Batman: The Killing Joke. My intentions after college is to move to L.A. and become an art director for feature films. I would also consider myself an artist. I love Andy Warhol and his influence on the pop art movement and my favorite things to draw include concept art for space vehicles, sci-fi environments, pop icons and retro-futuristic architecture. I also have a very deep love for music. I love every kind of music because they all have their own creativity and influence on the world. My favorite bands, however, include post-punk alternative rock band Coheed and Cambria and Brand New. I am also a huge Lil Wayne fan. Nothing beats the best rapper alive. I’m also an internet troll. My favorite sites include facebook.com (obviously), jimmyr.com, aintitcool.com, comingsoon.net and rottentomatoes.com. My primary for the class would be to maintain my blog after the class is complete. I’ve never been a fan of social networking but through this blog I feel that I can illustrate my opinions without broadcasting them. It is very easy to force a message onto someone and have that message become a part of the author’s personality. I also hope to learn more about how and why pop culture is communicated.
